CHARLOTTE, NC - The Dayton track & field team earned its highest-ever finish at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship Sunday, coming in fourth place. Kelly Pohlman won her third-straight A-10 shot put title and Amy Kremer was named Rookie of the Year after winning the high jump and heptathlon.

"This blew all our expectations away," head coach Kandice Erwin said. "The preseason poll picked us seventh, but we thought we could do better than that - and we did. All the kids stepped up and we scored in events we didn't expect to score in. We'll get better for next season and shoot for first or second place."

Pohlman is a three-time champion in the shot put after out-distancing the second place contestant by almost four feet. Her toss of 47-05.00 (14.45m).

She also turned in third place finishes in the discus (132-04 feet, 40.35m) and the hammer throw (158-09 feet, 48.38m). Connie Flemming added a fourth-place finish in the discus (132-01 feet, 40.27m).

Kremer set a school record in winning the outdoor high jump with a leap of 5-07.00 (1.70m). She also owns the UD school record in the indoor high jump at 5-07.75 (1.72m). She also won the heptathlon with 4243 points.

Andrea Cornell finished second in the 200m hurdles, with a season-best 14.63 seconds, just .06 back of Richmond's Jasmine Major.

Stacia Harold finished fourth in the 100m dash with a time of 12.24, her best mark of the season. Harold also placed fifth in the 200m dash with another season best, running 25.34.

Candace McKinley chipped in a sixth-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 121-03 feet (36.97m).

Jessica Schulte placed eighth in the 400m hurdles (1:07.71) just head of Kremer (1:07.92).

In the 10,000 m run, Dianne Striebel picked up two points for the Flyers with a 39:19.79, good for seventh place and a career-best.

Anne Oltman chipped in an eighth place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase, running a time of 11:38.24, her career-best.

UD's relay teams ran season bests, finishing third (4x400; time of 3:56.91) and fifth (4x100; 48.98).

Tara Hentgen added an eighth-place finish in the triple jump, with a distance of 10.31m.

Charlotte won the Atlantic 10 Championship with 210 points, followed by Richmond (112) and Rhode Island (97.25) and then UD (90.50). The Flyers were the pre-season pick to finish seventh.
