TRACK AND FIELD FINISHES 11th AT MIAMI INVITATIONAL

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton track and field team posted an 11th place finish on Saturday at the 22nd annual Miami Invitational. The Flyers earned 17 total points and placed in the Top 5 in two events at George L. Rider Complex in the team's second outdoor meet of the year. Lauren McCormick (13.17) and Brittany Thomas (13.21) led the team placing fifth and sixth respectively in the 100 meter dash as McCormick posted UD's highest individual finish at the meet. McCormick and Thomas also helped anchor the 4x100 meter relay team that placed third overall, along with fellow teammates Micella Davis and Liz Forster. The relay team recorded a time of 48.74. Emma Steinmetz finished strong in Oxford as she earned a sixth place spot in the 100 meter hurdles with her 15.55 time and a ninth place spot in the 400 meter hurdles, running in a time of 1:08.37. Andrea Cornell (16.04) also competed in the 100 meter hurdles event placing eighth out of 27 runners. In the 400 meter dash, Lisa Aubry and Forster crossed the line at 1:01.97 and 1:02.14 outdistancing 12 other runners. In distance events, Bridget Conlon (5:00.06), Alex Miles (5:03.20), and Colleen Donovan (5:05.04) competed in the 1500 meter run, while Jacqueline Jaworek clocked in at 18:52.48 good for 18th place for a new personal record by 14 seconds in the 5000 meter run. In the throwing events, freshman Molly McCarty competed in the shotput (34-08.50), discus throw (103-08) and hammer throw (130-11) as Micailah Brock placed ninth in the javelin with her throw of 101-03. Dayton recorded two top 15 finishes in the jumps as Andrea Funk place 10th in the high jump with her leap of 4-11.00 and Candace McKinley placed 15th in the long jump at 16-06.50. Katie DeVault (9-06.25) placed ninth in the pole vault setting a new school record along the way. Dayton will return to action April 21 as the team will head south to Cincinnati to compete in the All-Ohio Championships. |
