Flyers Take Home Eleven Medals
April 10, 2005 Lansing, MI - The University of Dayton track and field team won eleven medals from seven different Flyers at the Michigan State Open Saturday in their second meet of the spring season. Michigan State, hosting Lansing Community College, Oakland Community College, IPFW, and UD, won 16 first-place events to lead all schools. Junior Kelly Pohlman (Versailles, OH) continued her strong season as she won three medals on the day. She won gold in the shot put with a distance of 45-06.50. She also won a bronze in the discus throw (127-03) and in the hammer throw (143-05). Freshman Connie Fleming (Valrico, FL) had a great showing, as she picked up two medals. She finished with a silver medal in the discus throw (131-09) and a bronze in the javelin throw with a distance of 103-04. In the high jump, freshman Megan Sweeney (Cincinnati, OH) and junior Sophomore Tara Hentgen (Frederick, MD) finished in third place in the triple jump with a distance of 32-11.00
In the 100m dash, senior Aftan Delaney (Bellbrook, OH) came in third place with a time of 12.47.
Junior Sarah Kessler (Reynoldsburg, OH) won bronze in the 800m run with a time of 2:22.72.
The Flyers will travel to Columbus, OH, for the All-Ohio Championships Saturday for their next spring meet.
