KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Dayton women's track and field team placed eighth out of 10 teams at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships Saturday at Mackal Fieldhouse on the campus of University of Rhode Island.

Dayton scored a total of 48 team points to place behind host Rhode Island who won its second consecutive A-10 crown with 132.83 points. La Salle placed second with 127 points, followed by Richmond (109), Duquesne (90.66), Temple (74), Massachusetts (58.50), Fordham (57), UD, Saint Joseph's (42), and Xavier (2).

Kelly Pohlman (Versailles, OH) won the A-10 Indoor Title in both the shot put and the weight throw. She defended her 2004 Title in the shot put with a throw of 47 feet and 1.75 inches. Pohlman won her first ever weight throw A-10 weight throw championship after an effort of 55-3.00 feet.

Candace McKinley (Helotes, TX) also placed in two events for the Flyers. She won the bronze in the long jump with a distance of 17-7.50 feet and placed fourth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.46. Tara Hentgen (Frederick, MD) also competed in the long jump and finished with a distance of 14-11.25 and in 13th place.

Also in the 55m hurdles, Sally Sauerenheimer (Lancaster, OH) placed ninth and ended up with a time of 8.87. Katie Clifford (Grafton, MA) finished in 13th place with a time of 10.09.

Megan Sweeney (Cincinnati, OH) rounded out a successful day in the field events for UD with a bronze medal finish in the high jump at 5-3 feet. Kristen Lauer (Boardman, OH) finished in 16th place with a height of 4-09.00.

The duo of Aftan Delaney (Bellbrook, OH) and Stacia Harold (Urbana, IL) was fourth and fifth respectively in the 55-meter dash. Delaney finished in 7.27 while Harold had a mark of 7.35. Emily Deet (Gibsonia, PA) was the final scorer of the day for the Flyers as she placed eighth in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:44.24.

In the 200m dash, Lindsey Brown (Clarksville, IN), Delaney, and Micella Davis (Helotes, TX) placed 11th, 12th, and 13th. Brown finished with a time of 26.70, followed by Delaney's time of 26.94 and Davis' 27.01.

Sarah Kessler (Reynoldsburg, OH) placed ninth in the 1 mile run with a time of 5:07.84. Her teammate, Emily Haas (Chesterton, IN) finished with a time of 5:31.64, putting her in 15th place.

Kessler also competed in the 800m run, where she finished with a time of 2:24.52 and in 13th place. Liz Forster (Reynoldsburg, OH) finished 0.10 seconds ahead of Kessler to finish in 12th place in the event.

In the 3000m run, Deet finished in eighth place with a time of 10:44.24. Michelle Griffin (Lancaster, OH) finished one spot behind her with a time of 10:50.63. Ruth Hinde (Kettering, OH) finished in 14th place with a time of 11:46.39.

Amanda Tucker (Dublin, OH) was the top finisher among the Flyer runners in the 5000m run. She finished in 13th place with a time of 19:03.95. Allison Smith (Beverly Hills, MI) ended up with a time of 19:12.97 and in 15th place. Elizabeth Tucker (Dublin, OH) finished one spot behind her and with a time of 19:14.66.

The 4x400m relay team, consisting of McKinley, Davis, Brown, and Delaney, finished in ninth place with a time of 4:22.12.

Forster, Meg Watkins (Bel Air, MD), Bridget Kuhel (Columbus, OH), and Kessler combined to make up the 4x800m relay team, which placed in eighth with a time of 9:52.29.

Connie Fleming (Valrico, FL) and McKinley also competed in the shot put. Fleming finished with a distance of 35-08.75 and in 11th place. McKinley finished right behind her with a distance of 35-04.00.

This was the last competition for the Flyers for the indoor season. The Flyers kick off the outdoor track and field season April 2 in Cincinnati, OH, in the Oliver Nickoloff Invitational.
