Flyers Look Ahead to A-10 Championships Next Week

Final Stats

Akron, OH - The University of Dayton track and field team met with the best teams in Ohio at the All-Ohio Championships at Akron University Saturday. Dayton finished in eighth place. Akron won the event, setting five school records as well.

Akron ended the day with 164.5 points, topping Cincinnati (86.5), Miami (83.5), Bowling Green (71), Youngstown State (57), Toledo (46), Ohio (31), Dayton (18) and Wright State (8.5).

Junior Kelly Pohlman (Versailles, OH) was the only Flyer to bring home a medal on the day. She finished fourth in the shot put, the first time she has not finished in the top three all year, with a distance of 46-10.25. She won a silver medal in the weight throw with a distance of 55-04.75.

Sophomore Candace McKinley (Helotes, TX) finished the shot put in 18th place with a distance of 35-10.75. Freshman Connie Fleming (Valrico, FL) finished one place behind McKinley with a distance of 35-09.50.

In the long jump, McKinley finished in fifth place with a distance of 18-00.25.

Freshman Megan Sweeney (Cincinnati, OH) finished the high jump in sixth place with a height oh 5-03.75.

In the 60m hurdles, McKinley finished in ninth place with a time of 9.12. Senior Katie Clifford (Grafton, MA) came in 19th place with a time of 10.96.

Dayton had three athletes compete in the 3000m run. Senior Michelle Griffin (Lancaster, OH) lead the way with a tenth place finish with a time 10:55.19. Sophomore Allison Smith (Beverly Hills, MI) finished right behind Griffin in 11th place with a time of 10:56.61. Following her was sophomore Amanda Tucker (Dublin, OH) in 12th place with a time of 10:57.65.

Sophomore Liz Forster (Reynoldsburg, OH) finished in ninth place in the 800m run with a time of 2:22.32. Freshman Meg Watkins (Bel Air, MD) finished with a time of 2:24.35, putting her in 13th place. Freshman Bridget Kuhel (Columbus, OH) came in 17th place and finished with a time of 2:28.06.

In the 1 mile run, junior Sarah Kessler (Reynoldsburg, OH) finished with a time of 5:06.65, putting her in seventh place. Freshman Emily Deet (Gibsonia, PA) finished in 14th place with a time of 5:25.15. Sophomore Emily Haas (Chesterton, IN) finished in 18th place with a time of 5:35.74.

In the 200m dash, sophomore Lindsey Brown (Clarksville, IN) finished in 14th place with a time of 26.29. Sophomore Micella Davis (Helotes, TX) finished with a time of 26.48, putting her in 17th place. Senior Aftan Delaney (Bellbrook, OH) finished in 21st place with a time of 26.71.

Delaney also took part in the 60m dash where she finished in ninth place with a time of 7.93. Brown finished in 11th place with a time of 7.95. Junior Stacia Harold (Urbana, IL) finished right behind Brown in 12th place with a time of 7.95.

The Flyers will travel to Kingston, RI, Saturday where they will compete in the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships.
