POHLMAN WINS TWO MEDALS, SETS CAREER BEST

Akron, OH - In the non-team scored Akron Invitational Friday and Saturday, the Flyers were faced with tough competition as more than 20 schools competed in the meet. Junior Kelly Pohlman led the Flyers, winning gold in the shot put invitational. She also won silver in the weight throw invitational, setting a new career best. Pohlman (Versailles, OH) won gold in the shot put invitational with a throw of 46-03.25. Her mark of 56-06.75 in the weight throw invitational surpassed her previous best of 53-03.25, which she set earlier this season. Freshman Megan Sweeney (Cincinnati, OH) tied for fifth place in the high jump, scoring a mark of 5-02.50. Her teammate, freshman Kristen Lauer (Boardman, OH) tied for 13th place with a score of 4-10.50. Senior Aftan Delaney (Bellbrook, OH) finished in sixth place in the 60m dash with a time of 7.87. Junior Sarah Kessler (Reynoldsburg, OH) finished in 6th place in the 800m run with a time of 2:20.49. Sophomore Liz Forster (Reynoldsburg, OH) came in 11th place with a time of 2:25.34. Freshman Bridget Kuhel (Columbus, OH) finished in 24th place in the event with a time of 2:31.99. In the triple jump, sophomore Tara Hentgen (Frederick, MD) ended up in 17th place with a distance of 33-03.25. Hentgen also competed in the 400m dash, in which she placed 36th with a time of 1:05.24. Lauer competed in this event as well, finishing in 43rd place with a time of 1:07.65. In the 60m hurdles, senior Sally Sauerenheimer (Lancaster, OH) finished in 14th place with a time of 9.60. Senior Katie Clifford (Grafton, MI) finished with a time of 10.96, which landed her in 28th place. In the 5000m run, sophomore Allison Smith (Beverly Hills, MI) finished in 13th place with a time of 19:03.81. Senior Ruth Hinde (Kettering, OH) finished two spots behind her in 15th place with a time of 19:19.40. Sophomore Amanda Tucker (Dublin, OH) finished right behind Hinde with a time of 19:20.89. Sophomore Elizabeth Tucker (Dublin, OH) finished in 18th place with a time of 19:53.56. Freshman Connie Fleming (Valrico, FL) finished in 16th place in the shot put with a distance of 37-06.75. Freshman Emily Deet (Gibsonia, PA) competed in the 3000m run and finished in 16th place with a time of 10:47.64. Senior Michelle Griffin (Lancaster, OH) finished with a time of 10:56.00, putting her in 19th place. In the 1 mile run, sophomore Emily Haas (Chesterton, IN) finished in 26th place with a time of 5:33.53. Junior Kate Mone (Cleveland, OH) ended with a time of 5:54.52, placing her in 30th. Sophomore Jenny Lowe (Westlake, OH) finished 31st overall with a time of 6:01.85 while freshman Lesley Tuohy (Columbus, OH) ended with a time of 6:22.02 and in 33rd. The Flyers will continue their indoor season Saturday as they travel back to Akron for the All-Ohio Indoor Championships. |
