TRACK & FIELD EARNS SIX MEDALS AT BALL STATE OPEN

DAYTON, Ohio - Six Flyers earned gold medals on Friday at the Ball State University Open as the University of Dayton women's track & field team competed in their third indoor meet of the year. The Flyers also had two team members set personal bests and seven team members finish with season bests. Four freshmen were among those to win their events and take home the gold. Lauren McCormick took first place in the 60m with a time of 7.93. Fellow team member Kate Tejkl was the first finisher in the 1000m running the event in 3:10.40. Katie DeVault posted a 10-06.00 in the pole vault to earn her the gold and Andrea Funk leapt 35-10.50 in the triple jump to finish ahead of the competition and set a new personal record. Upperclassmen Amy Kremer and Liz Forster also took home medals for their performances. Kremer recorded a high jump of 5-06.50. Forster ran a strong 500m finishing in 1:19.92. Other Flyers to compete with strong results included sophomore distance runner Jacqueline Jaworek who set a new personal record in the mile (5:24.26) placing sixth overall. Micailah Brock and Chantee Mathews competed in the 60m hurdles with strong times of 9.32 and 9.35 respectively. Senior Candace McKinley recorded a season best time in the event at 9.58. In the 200m, freshman Brittany Thomas placed third running in 26.66. To follow her was McCormick who ran in 27.06. Lauren O'Brien set a season best running the event in 27.57. Emily Deet and Allison Smith both set season best times in the 3000m finishing in 11.17.10 and 11:59.95 respectively. In field events, freshman Molly McCarty threw 37-06.50 in the shotput for her season best while McKinley place third with a throw of 38-06.00. McCarty also competed in the weight throw where she place third with a throw of 39-10.00. In the long jump, Brock placed second (16-06.50). Funk, who won gold for the triple jump, also had a strong showing in the long jump leaping 16-05.75 for third place. Fellow classmate Briona Gresham recorded a leap of 16-00.50 in the same event. Angela Conlon placed fifth in the 800m race with a time of 2:31.01. In relay action Dayton team's "A" and "B" placed second (4:06.38) and third (4:21.15) respectively. Next up for the Flyers is a trip to Ada, Ohio to compete in the ONU Friday Night Series on January 19 |
