TRACK AND FIELD STARTS SEASON WITH FOUR GOLDS

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The University of Dayton track and field team opened its 2005 indoor season Saturday at the Indiana Hoosier Open. Junior Kelly Pohlman (Versailles, OH), highlighted the event for the Flyers by winning two gold medals and setting two new career bests. She won the shot put with a throw of 47-08 and the weight throw with a distance of 54-03.25.

Indiana won the most medals in the meet, as they took home a total of seven golds. Dayton was next with four golds, while the postgraduate club team Indiana Invaders won two golds.

The Flyers also took home a gold medal in the 3000m as sophomore Lauren Fenske (Dublin, OH) won the race with a time of 11:09.68. Sophomore Allison Smith (Beverly Hills, MI) finished with the silver with a time of 11:31.96. Sophomore Tara Hentgen (Frederick, MD) won gold in the triple jump for UD, ending up with a distance of 31-10.75.

A Silver medal was won by freshman Emily Deet (Gibsonia, PA) in the 800m with a time of 2:42.58. Senior Sally Sauerenheimer (Lancaster, OH) won the bronze in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.68.

Freshman Connie Fleming (Valrico, FL) finished with the bronze medal in the shot put with a distance of 34-00.25.

Dayton will continue their season Saturday, January 15, at the Ball State Open in Muncie, IN.
