(CROSS COUNTRY) Elissa Mason made an immediate impact for the women's cross country team, as the freshman was named the team's Rookie of the Year at the end of season awards banquet. She finished in the top seven in seven of eight races for UD, and was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Oct. 13. Mason ran a personal best time of 18:45 at the National Catholic Invitational to place 20th and helped the Flyers to a second place team finish. She also stepped up in a big way at the Atlantic 10 Championships, where the freshman ran in fourth position for the Flyers (27th overall) to help the team to its best finish ever at the conference meet.
(INDOOR) Took fifth place in the one mile run at the Indiana Open (5:23.78)... Participated in the 800 meter run where she ran 2:31.89...Competed in the 3,000 meter run three times...Took sixth place at the Akron Zips Invitational (10:25.03)...Earned fourth place at the Bowling Green State University Jane Herrmann Invitational(10:26.51)...Placed sixth at the Kent State Invitational with a time of 10:36.17.
(OUTDOOR) Competed in three events for the Flyers... Participated in the 5,000 meter run three times... Finished sixth at the Early Bird Relays with a time of 17:49.89... Took eleventh place at the Atlantic 10 Championship (18:15.05)... At the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational, competed in the 1,500 meter run, running a 4:49.71 for eighth place... Competed in the 3,000 mater run at the Stan Lyons Invitational, taking second place (10:27.39).
High School
Mason was a four sport athlete at her high school where she competed in cross country, track, swimming, and diving...She is the school record holder in the 5k, 3200 meter, and the 4x800 meter...Among her many athletic accolades, in cross country she was named All-State and All-Semi-State in her junior and senior seasons, while garnering All-Regional, All-Sectional and All-Marion County honors during her sophomore through senior years...In track, she was a regional qualifer in the 4x800 meter relay and the 1600 meter and in her junior season was the 3200 meter sectional champion...She was also an honor roll student at Roncalli.
