The University of Dayton named D'Andre Hill (pronounced Dee-Ahn-Druh) its new head women's track and field coach on September 4, 2001. Hill, 28, was a 1996 Olympian and the 1996 NCAA Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Year. She reached the semi-finals of the Atlanta Games in the 100 meters in 1996, and was also a member of the 1995 World Champion 4x100 meter relay team. While at LSU, Hill was part of three NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field national championship teams. In all three years--1994, 1995, and 1996-- she ran on the NCAA championship 4x100 relay team. Her college career reached its pinnacle in 1996 when she was the NCAA champion in the 55-meter (indoors) and the 100-meter (outdoors) runs, and runner-up in the 200-meter run in both indoors and outdoors. In addition to making the U.S. Olympic team, Hill was also the Southeastern Conference Indoor and Outdoor Female Track and Field Athlete of the Year, the NCAA Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Year, and a finalist for the Honda Female College Athlete of the Year. She graduated from LSU in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in General Studies with two minors in the fitness science area. She also holds a degree in Theraputic Massage from the Louisiana Medical College. She is a native of Cincinnati and is a 1991 graduate of Mt. Healthy High School. "I'm very pleased that D'Andre is our new track and field coach," UD Vice-President and Director of Athletics Ted Kissell said. "She is a talented young woman with experience at the highest levels of competition. She will be a tremendous role model for the student- athletes in our track program." |
