DAYTON WOMEN HAVE SUCCESSFUL SHOWING AT MIAMI FALL INVITE
Oct. 20, 2004 OXFORD, Ohio - University of Dayton women's tennis served a success at the Miami Fall Invitational last weekend. A solid team effort produced wins in every singles and doubles round across the board. In round one singles sophomore Kara Metzger (Franksville, WI) defeated Madison Reasoner of Cincinnati in two sets by a score of 6-3, 6-1. In round two singles junior Katie Cabanski (Toledo, OH) defeated Wright State's Megan Laux in two sets by a score of 6-1, 6-4. Following up with a round three singles win was freshman Allysa Detroy (Evansville, IN) defeating WSU's Kara Dunbar by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Doubles action showed off even more UD talent. Seniors Erin Kirkland (Dayton, OH) and Courtney McDowell (Centerville, OH) defeated a Cincinnati pair of Samantha Liu and Lindsay Brown by a score of 8-4 in round one doubles competition. Sophomore Kate Mellion (Clinton, OH) and freshman Megan Gray (Akron, OH) teamed up in round two doubles for a victory over Alicia Papa of Xavier and Christa Ames of WSU by a score of 8-2. Round three doubles was by far the most successful of the tournament with victories by three Dayton pairs. Kirkland and McDowell get their second victory of the tournament together with a win over Tiffani Foster and Dunbar (WSU) by a score of 8-2. Detroy and Metzger defeat a mixed school pair of Alicia Papa of XU and Magda Faferek of Indiana State by a score of 8-3. Mellion and Gray pick up their second doubles win of the tournament with a victory over Jennifer Bagby and Laux of WSU by a score of 8-0. The women of Dayton will have the winter season to prepare for their next competition, against Cleveland State University on January 28 in Cleveland. |
