University of Dayton women's tennis coach Erica Echko successfully defended her title at the Dayton Daily News / Montgomery County Open this past weekend. Echko, seeded No. 1, defeated the No. 2 seed, Beth Peyton 6-3, 6-4 in the final held at the Jim Nichols Tennis Center. Echko had played Peyton only once before, saying that she expected a tough match.

A Centerville High School and Miami University grad, Echko will be entering her second season at UD this year after leading the Flyers to a 9-10 record in her first year.

UD men's coach Steve Brumbaugh has reached the men's open doubles finals, which is scheduled to be played on July 31.
