April 30, 2008

A pair of UD seniors were named to the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Academic All-Conference team on Wednesday following a vote by the conference's sports information offices. Allysa Detroy was given the top honor of Atlantic 10 Student-Athlete of the Year, and she was joined on the team by Megan Gray. Dayton was the only school to have multiple players selected.

Detroy- a native of Evansville, IN- carries a 3.96 GPA as a double major in Spanish and Education. This winter, she earned the University of Dayton's second annual Women's Presidential Outstanding Scholar-Athlete Award. She was also recently named UD's NCAA Woman of the Year, which automatically puts her in the running to become the Atlantic 10 Conference's NCAA Woman of the Year.

In the classroom, Detroy has been on the Dean's List every semester of her collegiate career, and has been named a 4.0 Scholar Athlete twice. On the court, she has been Dayton's No. 1 singles player for the past three seasons. This spring she tallied six wins at No. 1 singles and eight victories at No. 1 doubles. Detroy earned the Team MVP award outright in 2007, and shared the honor this season with Gray.

Gray is a native of Akron, OH, and is also a double major. She has a 3.97 GPA in Foreign Language Education and Spanish. Like Detroy, Gray has made the Dean's List all eight semesters at UD. Among several other academic activities, Gray served one full year as President of Sigma Delta Pi as a senior. Gray played No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles this year for the Flyers. She was tied for the team lead in singles victories with 12. She turned in a solid performance at the Atlantic 10 Championship, where she went 2-0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles.

Dayton has now had at least one player named to the Academic All-Conference team in six of the past seven seasons.
