Freshman women's tennis player Laina Grote was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Monday for her efforts in Saturday's match against Ball State.

After playing No. 3 singles in the spring opener against Cincinnati two weeks ago, the Galena, Ohio native was bumped up to No. 2 singles against BSU. The move was successful, as she held off Haly Calderwood in a hard-fought 4-6, 6-4 (10-6) victory.

The win was the first of Grote's young collegiate career. She became the first Flyer women's tennis player to earn A-10 Rookie of the Week honors since Feb. 2006 when current junior Nikki Dzubay was selected.

The Flyers are off to an 0-2 start, but will look to post their first victory on Sunday, January 27 against the Miami RedHawks in Oxford, Ohio at 1 p.m. ET.
