Jan. 20, 2005

The UD women's tennis team announced a change in their spring schedule. The Flyers will begin their season this Sunday, January 23 against Miami University.

The women's tennis team is currently ranked seventh in the Atlantic 10 Coaches Forecast. The fall season brought success for the Flyers. At the Wittenberg Invitational, senior Erin Kirkland (Dayton, OH) led the team with a 2-1 in #1 single matches. Sophomore Kara Metzger and freshman Megan Gray (Akron, OH) made a good showing against IUPUI. The team made a strong statement at the Ball State Invitational. The season ended with the Flyers finding victory at the Miami Invitational.

The spring season will begin where the Flyers left off with the newly-named match against Miami University on January 23. The team will face Cleveland State on January 28 before making the drive to Indiana to play Ball State on January 29. Women's tennis next travels to Kentucky to face Lipscomb (1/29), Eastern Kentucky (2/11) and Morehead State (2/12). The Flyers will then return to Dayton to play IPFW on February 18. Before facing Detroit on February 20, the team will play Youngstown State on February 19. For the beginning of March, the Flyers will be in Dayton with matches against Akron (3/4) and Duquesne (3/5). Then it is onto New York to face St. Bonaventure and Niagara on March 12. The team gets a short break before playing their neighbor Wright State on April 4. The Flyers travel to Indiana for a match against Butler on April 6 and return to Dayton on April 7 to face Northern Kentucky.

The Flyers end the spring season at the A-10 Championships in Greenbelt, MD. The tournament runs April 14-17.

The women's tennis team faces Miami University this Sunday, January 23 in Hamilton, OH at 4:00 pm.
