WOMEN'S TENNIS CONCLUDES PLAY AT BALL STATE INVITATIONAL
Sept. 29, 2007 MUNCIE, Indiana -
Junior Nikki Dzubay finished as a Flight "C" singles consolation finalist as the Flyers wrapped up play at the Ball State Invitational on Saturday. Other impressive showings at the invitational were recorded by sophomore Molly Mathews - who was a Flight "D" singles semifinalist - and a pair of UD doubles teams that each reached the consolation final in their respective flights. Dzubay grinded out a 4-6, 6-4, 13-11 win in her consolation semifinal match over Agnes Menger of IPFW to reach the backdraw final, where she was defeated by Butler's Gabriella Bobrowski 6-2, 6-1. After two wins in Flight "D" on Friday, Mathews' run toward the title came to an end on Saturday. She was defeated in the semis by Miami's Jessica Linden 6-0, 6-2. In doubles, seniors Allysa Detroy and Megan Gray fell in the Flight "A" backdraw final 8-5 to Ball State. In Flight "D", Mathews paired with Chelsea Gray but came up short in their consolation final match against Miami, losing 8-6. Miami turned in a very impressive team showing, as the RedHawks took first place in all four singles flights and one doubles flight. The BSU Invitational marked Dayton's first tournament of the fall season. |
