The University of Dayton women's tennis team opened the fall season at the Ball State Fall Invitational, and the #1 doubles team of sophomore Loni Dickerhoof and freshman Julie Kirkland brought home the Fight 1 Doubles championship.

Dickerhoof and Kirkland went 3-0 on the weekend, with wins over tandems from Ball State, Bradley and defending champions Kelly Drvaric and Kari Kastenholz of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the finals.

Kirkland also advanced to the finals of the Flight A singles in her first college event, losing in the finals to Nicole Miller of Bradley.

Also placing second were the doubles team of Laina Grote and Molly Matthews in Flight 3 doubles. In Flight 4 doubles, Chelsea Gray and Sara Smith won the consolation bracket after dropping their first match to the eventual champions from Ball State.

The Flyers' next action will be Oct. 2-4 at the Queen City Racquet Club Invitational hosted by the University of Cincinnati.
