FLYERS ADVANCE IN A-10 TOURNEY FOLLOWING DAY TWO WIN
April 22, 2006 MONROEVILLE, Pennsylvania - The Dayton women's tennis team wrapped up a 4-1 victory over Rhode Island in its second Atlantic 10 Championship match of the weekend. The Flyers, seeded #10, defeated #11 URI behind strong showings from junior Kate Mellion and freshman Carrie Trigilio. The win puts UD at 1-1 in the tournament so far. Mellion was victorious in straight sets over Erin Fleming at #2 singles, winning 6-3, 6-4. She also paired up with Allysa Detroy to defeat Fleming and teammate Grace Hedstrom at #1 doubles. Trigilio was also a winner in both her singles and doubles match. At #6 singles, she cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win. Trigilio and teammate Mackenzie Hoops held on at #3 doubles for an 8-5 win. Freshman Nikki Dzubay was also a singles winner, earning a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Hedstrom. The Flyers will take on #9 seed Fordham Sunday morning at 8:30 in the ninth place match. |
