Senior Courtney McDowell helps bring victory to the Flyers

Results

The UD women's tennis team dominated Northern Kentucky University on their home turf. The Flyers defeated the Norse 7-0.

The team conquered their opponent in both singles and doubles play. Starting the seven-match winning streak was senior Erin Kirkland (Dayton, OH) over Laura Leutzinger 6-0, 6-0. Senior Courtney McDowell (Centerville, OH) snatched a singles win from Lindsay England 6-0, 6-2. Taking the number three-seeded victory was freshman Allysa Detroy (Evansville, IN) over Clara Dorado 6-2, 6-1. Sophomore Kate Mellion (Clinton, OH) defeated Jessica Smith 6-2, 6-1. Fellow sophomore Kara Metzger (Franksville, WI) triumphed over Courtney Myers 4-6, 6-0 (10-6). Sealing the singles streak was win by freshman Megan Gray (Akron, OH) against Heather Robertson 6-0, 6-0.

The Flyers won all three doubles matches. Kirkland and McDowell defeated Leutzinger and England. Detroy and Metzger prevailed over Dorado and Smith. Mellion and Gray snatched the third-seeded doubles victory against Myers and Robertson.

The final match score was Dayton 7, Northern Kentucky 0. The team's overall record moves to 12-5. Dayton has won nine of the last 10 matches dating back to February 18.

The Flyers resume play against Youngstown State on Friday, April 15 in Youngstown, OH at 3:00 p.m.
