WRIGHT STATE PULLS OUT 4-3 WIN OVER WOMEN'S TENNIS

Sophomore Molly Mathews and junior Nikki Dzubay became the first Flyers to reach 10 singles wins this spring, but Dayton suffered a 4-3 loss to crosstown rival Wright State on Wednesday. Mathews also tallied a doubles victory as the Flyers dropped to 6-13 this season. Mathews is now 6-2 in her last eight matches after a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles on Wednesday. Dzubay's 6-2, 6-2 victory came at No. 5 singles. Each player sports a 10-8 mark this spring. Also victorious for Dayton in singles was Allysa Detroy at No. 1. She dropped the first set 2-6 and was leading 5-4 in the second when her opponent retired. At No. 3 doubles, Mathews teamed with freshman Laina Grote for an 8-4 victory. The Raiders pulled out close wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, 9-8 (4) and 9-8 (3). Dayton hosts Oakland on Saturday at noon in its final home match of the season. |
