WOMEN'S TENNIS SWEEPS DOUBLES IN FRIDAY'S 4-3 VICTORY
April 7, 2006 DAYTON, Ohio - The Dayton women's tennis team started off on the right foot Friday against Detroit by winning all three doubles courts. The Flyers followed the doubles sweep with three singles wins en route to a 4-3 win at Dayton Center Courts. Nikki Dzubay, Megan Gray, and Andrea Muresan were all victorious in both singles and doubles for UD. They anchored the middle of the singles order with straight set wins at #3, #4, #5 respectively. Dzubay cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #3 over Kailin McVehil, while Gray and Muresan each tallied 6-4, 6-1 victories. At #2 doubles, Gray teamed up with Dzubay to defeat Ashley Cummins and Aneta Maricevic 8-3. Allysa Detroy and Kate Mellion were also 8-3 winners at #1 doubles, and Muresan paired up with Amanda O'Connell for an 8-6 victory over Kaitlin McVehil and Amy Inman. The win pulled Dayton's spring record to 7-9. The Flyers host Butler on Tuesday at 4:00 PM at NCR Courts. It is their final regular season tune-up for the Atlantic 10 Championships which begin April 21 in Monroeville, PA. |
