FRESHMAN DZUBAY LEADS THE WAY IN UD VICTORY
March 18, 2006 Dayton, OH - The Flyers women's tennis team returned to the courts for the first time in two weeks with a 6-1 victory over St. Bonaventure Saturday at Dayton Center Courts. Dayton Freshman Nikki Dzubay led the way for UD by blanking her opponent in both her singles and doubles match. The Flyers evened their spring record at 6-6 with the win, and have won three straight. Dzubay was not contested on the day. She won 6-0, 6-0 at #3 singles over Anna Callaghan to compliment her 8-0 victory at #2 doubles along with partner Megan Gray. Gray also cruised in her singles match at #4, winning 6-2, 6-2 over Yolanda Callaghan. Sophomore Allysa Detroy defeated Anna Perevenzetseva 6-4, 6-3 for her fourth win of the season in the #1 slot. Junior Kate Mellion also won in straight sets for UD 7-5, 6-3 at #2 singles over Stephanie Fosnight. The tandum of Detroy and Mellion were also victorious at #1 doubles with an 8-6 win. Freshman Carrie Trigilio rounded out singles play for Dayton with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6 singles. The Flyers are next in action Saturday, April 1 in Cincinnati against the Bearcats. Match time is 1:00 PM. |
