UD women's tennis claimed a home court victory over Akron on Friday, March 4. The Flyers united together to defeat the Zips 6-1.

The team dominated in both singles and doubles play. Senior Erin Kirkland (Dayton, OH) swept Courtney Brenkus 6-0, 6-0. Fellow senior Courtney McDowell (Centerville, OH) captured a win over Amy Sherlock 6-4, 6-4. Continuing the streak was freshman Allysa Detroy (Evansville, IN) who defeated Mindy Price 6-1, 6-4. Sophomore Kara Metzger (Franksville, WI) grabbed a victory over Laura Hemlepp 6-1, 6-1. Freshman and Akron native Megan Gray seized a win over Jennifer Ales 6-1, 6-1.

The Flyers swept the Zips in doubles. Kirkland and McDowell teamed up and defeated Price and Brenkus 8-1. In second doubles, Metzger and Detroy sealed a win over Miles and Hemlepp 8-1. To finish the streak, Mellion and junior Katie Cabanski (Toledo, OH) declared victory over Sherlock and Duchesne 8-2.

The final match score was Dayton 6, Akron 1. The women's tennis team overall record moves to 6-4.

The team Olean, New York and face St. Bonaventure at 9:00 a.m. and Niagara 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 12.
