Feb. 11, 2006 Dayton, OH - Following the cancellation of Friday's match against Belmont due to weather, the Dayton women's tennis team improved its spring record to 3-5 with a 4-3 win over Evansville in Dayton Saturday. Each team won three singles matches, but UD took two of three doubles matches to give the Flyers the win. Sophomore Allysa Detroy set the tone for UD with a 7-5, 7-5 win at #1 singles over Sarah Wilhoite. Sophomore Megan Gray and freshman Carrie Trigilio were also victorious in straight sets for UD at #4 and #6 singles, respectively. Trigilio and teammate Mackenzie Hoops came up short at #3 doubles, losing 8-6. But Detroy and junior Kate Mellion picked up the slack with an 8-3 win at #1 doubles while Gray and freshman Nikki Dzubay handed Evansville's Lisa Kawamoto and Stephanie Millis an 8-1 loss at #2. The Flyers next match is on the road against the Miami RedHawks in Oxford Saturday, February 18 at noon. |
