Despite an early 3-0 lead, the women's tennis team could not overcome the loss of three singles matches that went into three sets in Friday's 4-3 defeat to Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The match was the first of three that UD will play in Fort Wayne, IN this weekend. UD dropped to 1-5.

The Flyers got solid doubles play at No. 2 and No. 3. Junior Nikki Dzubay teamed with freshman Kelly O'Connell at No. 2 for an 8-4 win over Sammi Schoen and Ashley Schoneman. Freshman Laina Grote and sophomore Molly Mathews dominated at No. 3 for an 8-1 victory over Traci Litscher and Lauren Fenley.

Dayton opened singles play with victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Grote won her third straight at No. 2 by defeating Martina Schnapp 7-5 in the first set before Schnapp retired due to injury.

Senior Megan Gray won her second straight match with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 3 over Kari Kastenholz.

With the Flyers up 3-0 early, they needed only one more victory. However, the three set matches did not go Dayton's way.

Senior Allysa Detroy was outlasted at No. 1 by Kelly Drvaric, 5-7, 7-6(5), 3-6. At No.4, freshman Chelsea Glankler could not cash in after winning the first set. She dropped the match to Schoen, 6-4, 2-6, 4-6. Finally, Dzubay saw her comeback attempt fall short at No. 5 in a 2-6, 6-3, 4-6 loss to Litscher.

Mathews was the lone straight-sets victim for the Flyers on Friday.

The Flyers are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 9 in Fort Wayne, IN against Wisconsin-Green Bay at 3 p.m. ET.
