WOMEN'S TENNIS DROPS FIRST MATCH OF SPRING SEASON
Jan. 21, 2007 HAMILTON, Ohio - The women's tennis team lost its spring opener Saturday in Oxford, Ohio against the Miami RedHawks, 7-0. The Flyers fell to 0-1 on the year, as they look to improve on last season's 9-10 dual match record. Senior Kate Mellion competed at #1 singles for Dayton. Mellion dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Katrina Lomidze, while junior Allysa Detroy lost 6-4, 6-0 to Kelly Douple at #2 singles. Junior Megan Gray fell at #3, as sophomore Nikki Dzubay put in a strong first set showing, but came up short, 6-4, 6-1 at #4 singles. Sophomore Mackenzie Hoops and freshman Erin Wilkie rounded out the UD line-up in the #5 and #6 spots on Saturday. Miami put together three strong performances on the doubles courts as well, sweeping the Flyers. Second-year head coach Erica Echko says the Flyers played hard against a very talented Miami squad. "The match was a lot closer than the score reflects. The girls competed very well in their first match." Dayton will host IPFW on Saturday, January 27 in the first of four consecutive home matches. The match begins at 1 p.m. |
