MOLLY MEYER CRACKS UD RECORD BOOKS FOR RUNS SCORED
May 1, 2009
DAYTON, Ohio - Molly Meyer ran her way into the University of Dayton softball record books when she scored twice - including the game-winning run - against Saint Joseph's on April 26, 2009. Those two runs boosted her single-season total to 46, helping the junior pass Tanya Leet, who scored 44 runs nine years ago in the 2000 season. Meyer, not only claimed the single-season record, but she also now owns the UD career record for runs scored with 99 and counting; she still has her senior season to add to that total. "Molly Meyer's contributions to the Flyer Softball program have been invaluable," said UD Head Coach Cara Clark. "Her recent feat of breaking the single season and career record for runs scored is a tremendous accomplishment. We are excited to see how she continues to leave her mark within our program and University." As UD's starting centerfielder and leadoff batter, Meyer is a walking highlight reel with both her offensive and defensive abilities. She leads the Flyers in several offensive categories this season, including; .374 batting average, 13 doubles, three triples, 11 stolen bases, an on-base percentage of .446, and a slugging percentage of .544. Meyer also leads the A-10 in runs scored and doubles. With another season to play, Meyer is already in the top 10 in seven offensive categories for UD softball career statistics; third in career batting average (.350), 10th in doubles (22), 10th in triples (6), ninth in on-base percentage (.407), fourth in slugging percentage (.457), third in stolen bases (32), and of course first in runs scored (99). She was named an Atlantic 10 Honorable Mention selection in 2008, leading the Flyers in runs scored, triples, total bases, stolen bases and at bats. She finished second on the team in hits and batting average. Her freshman year, Meyer was second on the team with 16 runs scored and had a batting average of .329, earning Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team honors. The Flyers host the Charlotte 49ers this Saturday, May 2 in an Atlantic 10 doubleheader at UD Softball Stadium starting at 12:00 p.m. EST. |
