DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton Flyer softball is offering a Summer Softball Academy and a Pitchers & Catchers Camp in 2009. The Academy will be held June 8-10 and the Pitchers/Catchers Camp will be held June 15-16 at UD Softball Stadium.

The Academy covers fundamental softball instruction for hitting, defense, throwing, base running, history of the game and developing a positive mental approach to the game. The three-day camp will include two sessions. Session one is designated for campers in grades first thru sixth and will be held 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each day. Session two is for players in seventh thru 12th grades and will be held from noon to 3 p.m.

The Pitching & Catching Camp will also include two sessions: beginners and advanced. The beginner session runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and is recommended for players with less than three years of pitching experience. The advanced session will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on both days.

Participants in both camps will train and play at the UD Softball Stadium along the banks of the Great Miami River. The stadium features complete batting cages, bullpen and a natural playing surface that caters to 500-plus spectators.
