BOBCATS BLANK FLYERS 8-0 IN FIRST GAME

DAYTON, Ohio - The UD softball team dropped game one of a non-conference doubleheader versus the Ohio Bobcats, 8-0 in five innings on Monday. Blair Crabtree and Molly Meyer recorded the only hits for the Flyers as both went 1-for-2 in the opener. The Bobcats got on board early as Debbie Szalejoko singled to get things started. Shalene Petrich and Allie Farrington followed with back-to-back doubled to put up two runs. Candace Saucedo followed up with a single of her own to plate Farrington to drive in the last run of the inning as Ohio took a 3-0 lead in the first. With one out, Meyer singled to get on base in the third as Christine Eggers reached on a fielder's choice. Mollie Schrank also reached on a fielder's choice as Meyer was tagged out at third. With the Flyers in scoring position, Eggers was picked off as UD ended the inning scoreless. The Bobcats put a run up in the third and another in the fourth extending the lead to 5-0 as Dayton struggled to get on base. Ohio eventually put the game away in the fifth with three more runs as Saucedo walked and stole second. Kristen Salvatore followed up with a double to send in her teammate as Amanda Sacks hit a single driving in another run for the Bobcats. Sacks stole second and in the next at bat, Zoe Heim singled to drive in all the runs Ohio would need to take the opener in five innings, 8-0. Senior Chelsea Grozenski (4-15) suffered the game one loss giving up eight earned runs and 11 hits. Katlyn Mallette earned the win for the Bobcats scattering two hits and striking out two. Game two is set to begin at 4 p.m. ET. |
