DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton softball team was shut out in both games of an Atlantic 10 doubleheader to Charlotte on senior day at UD Softball Stadium. The Flyers were downed in game one, 9-0 in six innings and lost the finale, 8-0 on Saturday in the team's last home games of the season.

Christine Eggers, Mollie Schrank, and Molly Meyer collected the only hits for Dayton in the opener as the Flyers were out-hit by the 49ers 11-3.

Sarah Malene went 2-for-3 with three runs scored for Charlotte as teammate Kristen Bowen (14-11) earned the game one win striking out six.

Senior Chelsea Grozenski suffered the game one loss moving to 4-14 on the season. Grozenski gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out one.

Charlotte put one up in the first and extended its lead in the third adding five runs for a 6-0 advantage. Malene doubled to left field to start the inning as Evan Miller walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Becky Matthews singled to plate Malene as Matthews stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Miller scored on the same play. In the next at bat, Cee Brooks hit a two-run homerun. Lauren Schmitz singled and later scored on a pass ball to drive in the last run of the inning.

The Flyers would only get on base once more behind a Meyer single in the fifth, but the 49ers put the game away with three more runs in the top of the sixth as Dayton couldn't overcome the deficit eventually falling 9-0 in six innings in the first game.

Charlotte kept up its hot-hitting ways in the finale of the twinbill with 13 hits total to Dayton's two.

Charlotte's Malene and Kristi Killough both went 2-for-3 as Matthews and Lauren Schmitz went 2-for-4. Keri Palma posted a 2-for-2 hitting effort and added a run and RBI for the 49ers.

Charlotte got things started once again in game two with a run in the second inning.

In the third, the 49ers scored three more as Miller singled, Killough walked, and Matthews doubled to send in her teammate. Brooks followed up with a double of her own scoring Matthews and Killough as Charlotte took a 4-0 lead.

Dayton got on base in the fourth behind a double from Blair Crabtree and in the fifth behind a single from Meyer, but both runners were left stranded and Dayton remained scoreless.

The 49ers kept up the momentum in the sixth inning with another three runs behind Brooks, Kaycie Jones, and Plama and added one more in the seventh to seal the victory and to shut out Dayton, 8-0 in the nightcap.

Christy Murray (15-10) earned the game two win striking out five, walking three, and giving up only two hits.

Erin Lafayette moved to 5-7 with the loss striking out one and walking two.

Dayton returns to action on Monday, May 7 as the team closes out the 2007 season on the road at Ohio. The Flyers and Bobcats will face off in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. ET.
