DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton softball team was shut out in game one of an Atlantic 10 doubleheader versus Charlotte (9-0) on Saturday at UD Softball Stadium.

Christine Eggers, Mollie Schrank, and Molly Meyer collected the only hits for Dayton in the opener as the Flyers were out-hit by the 49ers 11-3.

Sarah Malene went 2-for-3 with three runs scored for Charlotte as teammate Kristen Bowen (14-11) earned the game one win striking out six.

Senior Chelsea Grozenski suffered the loss moving to 4-14. Grozenski gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out one.

Charlotte put one up in the first and extended its lead in the third adding five runs for a 6-0 advantage. Malene doubled to left field to start the inning as Evan Miller walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Becky Matthews singled to plate Malene as Matthews stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Miller scored on the same play. In the next at bat, Cee Brooks hit a two-run homerun. Lauren Schmitz singled and later scored on a pass ball to drive in the last run of the inning.

The Flyers would only get on base once more behind a Meyer single in the fifth, but the 49ers put the game away with three more runs in the top of the sixth as Dayton couldn't overcome the deficit eventually falling 9-0 in six innings.

Dayton is set to honor its five seniors in between the games of the doubleheader. The first pitch of game two is set for 2 p.m. ET.
