KINGSTON, RI - The UD softball team split an Atlantic 10 conference doubleheader at Rhode Island Sunday. The Rams nipped the Flyers in game one, 2-1, but the Flyers exploded for 11 hits in a 6-0 win in game two. Sheena Rothwell was two-for-four in game two, and Ellie Malchow collected three hits in the nightcap.

The Flyers are now 17-28 on the year, 7-11 in the Atlantic 10. Rhode Island is now 20-23 overall, 8-9 in the A-10.

In game two, Rothwell drilled a one-out double in the top of the second inning, and after Laura Matthews reached on an error, Lauren Schneider doubled in Rothwell for a 1-0 lead. Ellie Malchow followed with an RBI single as Dayton led 2-0.

The Flyers tacked on two more in the fifth, as Tamsyn Kellough, Tami Roudebush and Rothwell all singled with one out. Matthews singled for a 3-0 lead and UD capped the scoring as Roudebush scored on a passed ball.

In the sixth, after a leadoff walk to Christine Eggers, URI went to the pen and replaced Halcomb with Jill Anderson. But the Flyers managed to push a pair of runs across on Anderson as well. Mollie Schrank singled on a sacrifice bunt attempt, and Eggers went to third on the throw. Schrank then stole second, and Kellough followed with a sacrifice fly. Eggers trotted home on the sac fly, but the throw to third went awry and Schrank was able to score.

Melissa Myher allowed three hits, and struck out two to improve to 9-17 on the season.

Halcomb took the loss, allowing nine hits and walking three in five innings to fall to 12-11.

Earlier in the day, Rhode Island won 2-1 in game one.

Dayton is home Wednesday to face Ohio at 5:00 p.m.
