DAYTON EARNS GAME ONE WIN AGAINST LA SALLE

DAYTON, Ohio - The UD softball team won the opener of an Atlantic 10 twinbill against La Salle, 4-2 on Saturday. Mollie Schrank went 1-for-4 with a pair of RBI in the opener as Tamsyn Kellough went 2-for-2 and Molly Meyer went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Maggie Stopka, Laura Matthews, and Ellie Malchow also scored a run each for Dayton in the first game. Junior Erin Lafayette had a strong performance in the circle for the Flyers. LaFayette struck out five while scattering seven hits and surrendering six walks to earn the game one win. Dayton jumped on board first in the second inning when Kellough blasted a single to right field. Stopka and Matthews both reached on a fielder's choice as Kellough was put out at third. In the next at bat, Malchow also reached first on a fielder's choice to knock in Stopka. Matthews stole home to put another up for UD as Meyer singled and stole second. Schrank reached first on an error to put two more up to give the Flyers a 4-0 lead early on. In the third La Salle scored a run as Kate Gulikis advanced on a hit-by-pitch and was knocked in by a Mary Pat Conville single. The Explorers looked to even the score, but would only pull within two scoring a final run in the bottom of the seventh as Dayton won the opener, 4-2. |
