DAYTON SPLITS PAIR WITH SAINT JOSEPH'S
April 25, 2005
Dayton, OH - The University of Dayton softball team fell to Saint Joseph's Monday in the second game of an Atlantic 10 Conference doubleheader, 1-0. Dayton's record moved to 17-16-1 on the season and 6-6 in A-10 play. Junior Melissa Myher had a solid performance in the circle for the Flyers but suffered a complete-game loss. Myher struck out five while scattering eight hits and surrendering just one walk in Monday's finale. She is now 13-8 on the year. Saint Joseph's jumped on the board first with a one-run single which proved to be the only offense of the game as the Hawks took a 1-0 lead. Both sides traded scoreless innings including the fifth inning when Melissa Myer retired all three Hawks batters in order. In the 7th inning Saint Joseph's loaded the bases with only one out when Myher had a strike out and a ground out to end the threat. Dayton looked to score a tying run in the seventh when lead off batter Sheena Rothwell singled down the left field line. Cortney Schafer then laid a sac bunt to move Rothwell to second. Tamsyn Kellough then singled to left field to move Rothwell to third but the Flyers were unable to bring anyone across the plate as they fell to the Hawk's 1-0. UD will travel to Philadelphia Friday as they will take Temple in an Atlantic 10 doubleheader beginning at noon. Dayton will then travel to New York to take on the Fordham Rams in the last Atlantic 10 games of the season. |
