DAYTON PICKS UP PAIR AT IPFW ON TUESDAY

Game One Box Score, Game Two Box Score
DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton softball team picked up two wins against IPFW sweeping the series against the Mastodons at IPFW Softball Complex on Tuesday. Dayton took game one, 7-6 and won game two, 6-1.The Flyers are now 10-23 overall and 2-9 in the conference. Christine Eggers went 4-for-5 with an RBI in game one, Ellie Malchow hit 2-for-4 and added a pair for runs UD. Maggie Stopka and Laura Matthews both went 2-for-3 as Mollie Schrank and Katie Jordan picked up runs for UD in game the opener. Chelsea Grozenski picked up the win as she pitched six innings scattering three hits, walking two and striking out three. Dayton was down early as IPFW scored all six of its runs off of two hits in the bottom of the first inning. Kellough blasted a lead-off homerun to start the second to get UD on board. The Flyers comeback started in the top of the fourth as Stopka singled to center field and Laura Matthews doubled to left. Malchow followed up with a single of her to score Stopka. Then Schrank reached on an error putting one more up for Dayton. Crabtree followed up with a two RBI double as Dayton pulled within one, 6-5. In the fifth, the Flyers took the lead with back-to-back singles from Malchow and Eggers who knocked two more in to lead UD to victory in the opener, 7-6. Dayton kept the momentum going in game two scoring two runs in the first for the lead early on. IPFW scored a run in the fifth, but Dayton couldn't be stopped eventually putting the game away in the seventh. Schrank and Crabtree reached on errors as both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Schrank then scored in the next play behind another wild pitch. Matthews walked and Rothwell pinch-ran stealing second as Kellough singled scoring Crabtree. The Flyers would pick up one more run on the third wild pitch of the inning collecting all the runs the team would need to win the finale, 6-1. Schrank went 3-for-4 with a run scored in game two. Kellough was 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI as Malchow hit 3-for-4. Crabtree picked up a pair for runs for Dayton as Eggers and Rothwell scored one each. Erin Lafayette pitched the complete game shut-out allowing two hits, two walks and striking out one. Dayton returns to action Friday, April 27 as the Flyers head to Philadelphia to take on Atlantic 10 opponent La Salle. Game time is set for 3 p.m. ET. |
