Final Stats

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton softball team took game one (4-1) of a non-conference doubleheader against the IPFW Mastodons on Sunday. Maggie Stopka was 2-for-3 with two RBI in the opener, while Sheena Rothwell added two runs for UD.

Dayton picked up three runs in the first to take the lead from the start. Mollie Schrank singled to left field, advanced to second on a Blair Crabtree ground out, and stole third. Rothwell walked to get on base as Tamsyn Kellough reached on an error by the short stop, plating Schrank and advancing Kellough. Both runners moved a base on a passed ball as Stopka blasted an RBI single to right field. Matthews followed with an RBI single of her own to help UD take the lead early on in the opener.

In the third, IPFW scored the team's lone run of the game behind a Ty Lambert single scoring fellow teammate Kayla Powell.

Dayton added one more run in the bottom of the third as Stopka singled to send Rothwell home for all the runs the team would need to win the opener, 4-1.

Chelsea Grozenski picked up the win pitching three strong innings. She gave up six hits, one earned run, walked three, and struck out two to pick up her third win of the year.

Game two is set for 2:15 p.m. ET.
