DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton softball team won both games of a non-conference doubleheader against IPFW on Sunday as the Flyers earned its first sweep of the year at UD Softball Stadium. Dayton topped the Mastodons in game one, 4-1 and took game two, 6-0. Maggie Stopka went 4-for-7 on the day adding a home run and two RBI for UD.

The Flyers are now 8-23 on the year and 2-9 in the Atlantic 10.

Tamsyn Kellough hit 3-for-4 with two RBI in game two as Molly Meyer went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Stopka got thing started in the second inning belting a lead-off home run to left center to score the first run of the game.

Dayton added one more in the third as Rothwell started the inning with a walk and advanced to third on a single by Kellough. She later scored on wild pitch giving Dayton a 2-0 lead.

The Flyers scattered a couple hits over the next two innings before putting the game away in the bottom of the sixth. The inning started when Katie O'Brien, Meyer, and Eggers strung three singles together to load the bases with no outs. After Schrank hit an RBI ground out to plate the first run, Crabtree followed up with a single of her own. A batter later Kellough hit a two RBI single to break the game wide open. Stopka would add another hit knocking in the fourth and final run of the inning to give the Flyers a 6-0 lead and the game two win.

UD pitcher Erin Lafayette threw the complete game shut out, scattering six hits, walking two and striking out five to pick up her third win of the year.

In game one, Stopka was 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Rothwell added two runs for UD.

Dayton picked up three runs in the first to take the lead from the start. Schrank singled to left field, advanced to second on a Crabtree ground out, and stole third. Rothwell walked to get on base as Kellough reached on an error by the short stop, plating Schrank and advancing Kellough. Both runners moved a base on a passed ball as Stopka blasted an RBI single to right field. Matthews followed with an RBI single of her own to help UD take the lead early on in the opener.

In the third, IPFW scored the team's lone run of the game behind a Ty Lambert single scoring fellow teammate Kayla Powell.

Dayton added one more run in the bottom of the third as Stopka singled to send Rothwell home for all the runs the team would need to win the opener, 4-1.

Chelsea Grozenski picked up the win pitching three strong innings. She gave up six hits, one earned run, walked three, and struck out two to pick up her third win of the year.

Dayton will face IPFW on the Mastodons home field at IPFW Softball Complex on Tuesday, April 24 as the Flyers travel to Ft. Wayne, Indiana. The non-conference doubleheader is set to begin at 12 p.m. ET.
