BONNIES SWEEP FLYERS IN A-10 TWINBILL
April 22, 2006
DAYTON, OHIO - The University of Dayton softball team fell in game two to St. Bonaventure, 4-2, as the Bonnies completed the sweep of an Atlantic 10 doubleheader. Tamsyn Kellough finished the day two-for-five with three walks, two runs scored and a run batted in. Mollie Schrank was two-for-four for the Flyers in the second game and four-for-nine on the day. Earlier in game one, St. Bonaventure out-slugged UD 11-10. St. Bonaventure (16-16, 9-5 Atlantic 10) starter Christine Keleher allowed just five hits for her second win of the day. Dayton falls to (13-24; 6-8 A-10). Lauren Krieger hit a two-run single in the first for the Bonnies. Kirstin Strong added an two-run double to make it 4-0. Tamsyn Kellough made a pair of highlight reel catches in the top of the third, diving towards the left-center gap on a sinking line drive for the first out and then running back to the track for the second out. In the fourth, two Flyers walked and Shalyn Adams delivered an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-1. Bonaventure threatened in the top of the fifth, putting runners on first and third with one out. But Christine Eggers snared a hard grounder to first and threw out the runner at the plate. The catcher, Laura Matthews threw down to third, where the Bonaventure runner was hung up between second and third. 3B Blair Crabtree ran her down for the final out of the inning. Dayton trimmed the lead to 4-2 in the fifth with a leadoff walk, a single by Mollie Schrank and walks to Kellough and Sheena Rothwell. But Keleher induced a ground ball to the third baseman, who stepped on the bag to end the inning and avoid further damage. Keleher retired six of seven in the final two innings to close out the win. Dayton played each game without number three hitter and starting SS Tami Roudebush, who was unavailable due to an academic commitment required for her major. The Flyers will play host to IPFW Sunday at noon in a non-conference doubleheader. |
