FLYERS OPEN A-10 WEEKEND WITH WIN OVER LA SALLE

DAYTON, OH - The Flyer softball team took game one of a conference doubleheader, 3-1, over La Salle at UD Softball Stadium Friday. Sheena Rothwell was two-for-three, and Tamsyn Kellough drove in two runs for the Flyers, who improve to 15-15-1 overall and 4-5 in the Atlantic 10. The Flyers opened the scoring in the third inning with a pair of runs on a walk to Ellie Malchow and a single by Christine Eggers. After a fielder's choice and a stolen base, Tamsyn Kellough ripped a single through the right side for a 2-0 lead. La Salle answered with a run in the top of the fourth. Megan Berry singled to open the inning and came into score on a double by Laura DeZolt. Dayton tacked on one more in the bottom of the fourth as Tami Roudebush singled and Sheena Rothwell doubled to left center. Melissa Myher (11-7) pitched seven innings allowing five hits and one run while striking out seven. DeZolt (3-10) takes the loss as all three runs were earned. She gave up seven hits and struck out seven. Kellough, Eggers and Christina Vetter were each one-for-three, while Cassie Gross was one-for-two with a walk. Game two will begin at approximately 2:00 p.m. NOTES: Gross was caught stealing for the first time this season, falling to seven-of-eight in stolen base attempts. La Salle's record falls to 7-28-1 overall, 2-7 in the A-10. |
