DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton softball team dropped the finale of a twinbill against Butler (4-0) in non-conference action on Wednesday. Dayton lost game one, 3-2 at UD Softball Stadium. The Flyers fall to 5-22 on the season as Butler improved to 19-13.

Freshman Molly Meyer went 1-for-2 as Lauren Schneider went 1-for-1 in game two. Mollie Schrank also recorded a hit for the Flyers.

Butler got things started in the fourth with a run from Lindsay Schluge.

The Bulldogs would add three more in the sixth for all the runs they would need to win the finale as Amy Hyerczyk singled to left field and advanced to second a wild pitch. Jenny Jacobs reached on fielder's choice as Annie Dolan singled scoring Hyerczyk. Jacobs advanced to third. Jen Arriaga followed up with a double earning two RBI.

Dayton would remained scoreless the rest of the game eventually losing, 4-0 in the finale.

Arriaga was 2-for-3 in game two with an RBI as Hyerczyk went 2-for-4 scoring a run for the Bulldogs.

Jennifer Chasteen (9-2) pitched a complete game to earn the win, striking out three.

Dayton's Erin Lafayette (1-4) suffered the loss striking out two and walking one.

In game one, UD out-hit Butler 8-7. Schrank went 3-for-4, Blair Crabtree went 2-for-4 and Schneider was 1-for-1 with an RBI.

The Bulldogs came out big in the top of the third as Bridget Paine blasted a homeurn with runners on first and second earning three RBI and taking the lead 3-0.

The Flyers got on board in the sixth as Schrank singled, Crabtree doubled and Sheena Rothwell was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Pinch-hitter Lauren Schneider stepped up to plate with a single of her own scoring Schrank to put one up for Dayton.

UD added one more run in the seventh behind Molly Meyer, but it wasn't enough as the Flyers fell in the first game 3-2.

Dayton returns to action at UD Softball Stadium on Saturday, April 21 in an Atlantic 10 doubleheader versus George Washington. The Flyers will face the Colonials in a two-game series set to begin at 12 p.m. ET. Both games can be followed with live stats at www.DaytonFlyers.com
