DAYTON FALLS TO UMASS 11-1 AT UD ARENA SOFTBALL COMPLEX

Dayton, OH - The University of Dayton softball team took on the University of Massachusetts' Minutewomen Saturday and was unable to keep their three game unbeaten streak alive as the Flyers fell 11-1. Dayton falls to 0-1 in conference play in the first game at UD Arena Softball Stadium. Erin Lafayette took to the circle to throw the inaugural pitch as her record fell to 2-3 on the season. LaFayette pitched six innings for UD allowing eight hits, seven runs, walking three and striking out one. The Flyers fell behind early on a three run homer hit by Denise Denis. The Flyers were able to come back in the fifth when Laura Matthews homered to staight-away centerfielf to pull within 4-1. It wasn't until the sixth inning when UMass was able to break it open with seven runs in the top of the inning. The Flyers were unable to come back and score any runs in the sixth. Dayton will play UMass in a second game at 3PM. |
