DAYtON FALLS TO LIPSCOMB 5-4 IN SATURDAY'S OPENER

The University of Dayton softball team traveled to Nashville, TN to face Lipscomb in the first set of three double header games for the spring break weekend. UD fell in the first game on Saturday, 5-4. Christine Eggers was 2-for-4 in the first game with two triples, including a leadoff triple in the first inning. Eggers also scored two runs for the Flyers. Cassie Gross also went 2-for-4 with a home run in the third inning to tie the game at three. Gross also singled in the seventh to load the bases with no outs. Erin Lafayette took to the circle for Dayton. LaFayette pitched a complete game and only allowed 10 hits, 3 walks, and struck out five. Lipscomb looked to finish the game off as they were able to load the bases in the sixth inning; but, Tami Roudebush was able to complete her own double play to end the inning. The Flyers came out in the seventh inning with Christine Eggers singling through the middle followed by a bunt by Shannon St. Clair who was called safe at first. Cassie Gross then singled to left field as unfortunately UD was unable to score any runs. Dayton moves to 2-4 on the season and will take on Middle Tennessee Sunday after the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. |
