BREDLO NAMED TO SOCCER AMERICA NATIONAL TEAM OF THE WEEK

Oct. 27, 2004

DAYTON -- Junior women's soccer player Alicija Bredlo (Burlington, Ontario) has been selected to both the Soccer America and Soccer Buzz National Teams of the Week for her performance in two UD victories last weekend. The defender helped lead the 22nd-ranked Flyers to a pair of victories, which extended the nation's longest winning streak to 16 matches.

Bredlo, who was also tabbed the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week and the UD Female Athlete of the Week, notched her fourth game-winning goal of the season Friday as UD (16-1-0, 9-0-0) rallied to beat Richmond, 2-1. The win over the second-place Spiders clinched the Flyers their eighth Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championship and seventh consecutive -- an A-10 record for the sport. Sunday, the defender anchored a backline that posted its conference-best 11th shutout of the season in the 3-0 win over George Washington.

For the season, Bredlo is fourth on the team in scoring with five goals and one assist for 11 points - all are career-bests. The junior, who had played in only 17 matches through her first two season with just one goal, has started all 17 matches this season and is UD's fourth-leading scorer. Her play on the backline has helped the Flyers post the NCAA's ninth-best team goals against average (0.42).

Dayton will close out the A-10 regular season at Fordham (Friday, 2:00 p.m.) and La Salle (Sunday, 1:00 p.m.) and will have the No. 1-seed heading into the A-10 Championship next weekend at the University of Massachusetts.
