Flyers vs. Redhawks
Another great success for the Flyer's today my friends! We quickly finished up with the last bit of class and loaded the bus for our 5:00 p.m. match against Miami, Ohio. The coaches were sure to get some snacks for us to eat along the way. We are all animals when it comes to food, so we love it when they do that. It was a fairly smooth bus ride, a bit of nausea over the bumps, but we all made it there safely.

I had never been to Oxford, Ohio before so I was pretty excited and I thought the campus was beautiful.

We all seemed pumped up and ready to get the match started. Coach Tucker quickly went over the scouting report and we became aware of our goals for the game.

Surely, we knew this wasn't going to be an easy match. Miami has some great players who create a lot of opportunity in their attack. Coach Tucker also made it clear that they play a lot of possession, which was a definite bonus for us because that's how we play. We had our good and quick regular warm-up, said our prayers, and got the ball rolling.

The first half was a tough battle for both teams. We had a few scoring opportunities but just couldn't find the goal. We were also a bit hasty with the ball, and didn't create very much Flyer magic. After a 0-0 tie in the first 45 minutes, we were a bit frustrated with ourselves at halftime.

We knew what it would take to get the job done, now we just needed everyone to pull together and play smarter. Unfortunately, the RedHawks got on the board early in the second half. It was hard to believe they actually scored on us considering it was the first goal we let by us in a long time.

However, instead of backing down and giving up, we immediately stepped up and tallied a 2-1 win over the RedHawks. Kelly (Blumenschein) placed a nice ball in the back of the net to tie it up and then Mandi (Bäck) scored the game winner in the 81st minute.

When we are focused and pay attention to detail we can perform at a solid rate. The more patient we are on the ball, especially in the final third, the more goal scoring chances we create.

We were all in high spirits on our bus ride home, and of course made sure to stop for more food!

Our first A-10 opener is at Baujan Field this Friday, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. Everyone should come out and support us this season. Go Flyers!!
