DAYTON, Ohio - Throughout the off-season, the biggest question surrounding the Dayton Flyers had been whether the club's offense would be strong enough to carry a young team that's full of promise.

Friday, the Flyers showed it could do that.

Behind goals from freshmen Eileen Hughes, Caitlin Proffitt and Lauren MacCormick, Dayton rolled to a 3-0 victory over the Eastern Kentucky Colonels.

Behind a capacity crowd at Baujan Field thanks in part to the Flyers celebrating National Student-Athlete Day and temperatures in the mid-60s, Dayton did just about everything correctly on the offensive end.

Hughes got the Flyers on the board early by rifling a free kick past the out-stretched Colonel goalkeeper to put UD ahead 1-0.

Minutes later, Proffitt picked up a pass from Hughes on a corner and headed the ball in the back of the net to put the Flyers up 2-0.

UD would capitalize on a mistake in the Eastern Kentucky zone when MacCormick put one in from six yards out to cap the scoring.

With a three-goal cushion, Louisville Cardinal transfer and sophomore Deana Waintraub stood strong in goal for the shutout.

The offensive charge was a welcome sight for the Flyers. In 2006 Proffitt was UD's third leading scorer with five goals and an assist in 18 games, but MacCormick and Hughes didn't record a single point the entire season.

Dayton looks to continue their progress at home on Friday, April 13 at 7 p.m. ET against the Ball State Cardinals.
