Jan. 29, 2007

The University of Dayton women's soccer team celebrated the 2006 season on Sunday, January 28 with a banquet in the Boesch Lounge of UD Arena. The Flyers finished the season 8-7-3 and earned a berth in the Atlantic 10 Tournament for the 11th consecutive year. Twenty-seven team members were awarded letters for their performance during the season.

The highlight of the awards presentation was the announcement of the recipient of the Stacey Martin Memorial Award. On March 28, 1998, Stacey Martin, a second team All-Atlantic 10 selection the previous season, passed away during an exhibition match at Baujan Field. In her memory, the Flyers established the team leadership award in her name. The recipient is selected by a vote of the team.

The 2006 Stacey Martin Memorial Award was presented to senior Jaime Monahan. The Cincinnati native joined the Flyers her freshman year after having completed a great high school career at Oak Hills. Monahan saw action in 10 games during her first two years with the Flyers. Playing at midfield, she was sidelined during the 2005 season due to a knee injury. She came back at the beginning of the 2006 season but suffered a season-ending injury to her other knee. Her recovery and rehab from two ACL surgeries served as an inspiration to her teammates. Monahan provided the team with tremendous effort both on and off the field during her career. She will graduate in May with a degree in visual communication design.

The Flyers will begin their 2007 spring exhibition season with a match at Indiana University on Sunday, February 25. Fans can catch the Flyers at home on Friday, March 30, as they take on the Eastern Kentucky Colonels at 8:00 PM at Baujan Field.
