SIMONETTI NAMED SECOND TEAM SOCCER BUZZ ALL-AMERICA
Jan. 10, 2005 DAYTON - University of Dayton senior women's soccer player Jen Simonetti (Copley, OH) was selected Second Team All-America from Soccer Buzz in national voting conducted by the NCAA Division-I coaches. In the regional balloting, Simonetti was joined on the All-Great Lakes Team by four other Flyers while head coach Mike Tucker was voted the runner-up Coach of the Year in the region. Simonetti, a defender, was also named First Team All-Region and joined by senior MF Tesia Kozlowski (Westerville, OH). Senior GK Stacy DeLuca (Maryville, IL) and junior F Reba Sedlacek (Hamilton, OH) were named to the Second Team while freshman F Courtney Sirmans (Dayton, OH) was voted to the Great Lakes All-Freshman Team. Simonetti, this is her second All-America honor this season after being named to the NSCAA Third Team. The Flyers' senior defender capped off her career being named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year. One of the most offensive defenders in school history, Simonetti finished her career with 28 points on seven goals, 14 assists and three game-winning goals. She was UD's fifth-leading scorer this season with 10 assists and a goal for 12 points. Named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team in 2001, Simonetti was a First Team All-Conference selection in 2002 and 2004. Dayton enjoyed its winningest season in school history by going 20-2 and advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive year and fifth time since 1999. UD set a school record for wins while capturing both the Atlantic 10 Conference regular season and tournament titles. |
