FLYERS BLITZ BONNIES, 4-0, IN WOMEN'S SOCCER
Oct. 1, 2004
DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's soccer team got four goals from four different players en route to a 4-0 shutout of St. Bonaventure in Atlantic 10 action Friday night. The Flyers (9-1-0, 2-0-0) dazzled the crowd of 838 at Baujan Field, outshooting the Bonnies 30-5 and owning a 10-1 edge in corner kicks. UD tacked on three goals in the final 20 minutes of regulation after junior D Alicija Bredlo (Burlington, Ontario) gave the Flyers an early lead 10 minutes into the match. Bredlo headed home a corner kick from junior F Katie Lowstuter (Cincinnati, OH) for her third goal of the season. The UD defense held the high-scoring Bonnies to just five shots to ensure the Flyers' ninth-straight win and sixth shutout. SBU, who was blanked for the first time this season, had entered the night with 32 goals in its first 10 games. Junior F Reba Sedlacek (Hamilton, OH) extended the Flyers' advantage to 2-0 in the 71st minute, heading a restart from senior MF Jen Simonetti (Copley, OH) past SBU goalkeeper Lisa Eberhart. The goal was Sedlacek's team-leading sixth of the season and this first assist for Simonetti. Simonetti then factored in on UD's third goal as she pounded a shot from 28 yards to the far corner in the 80th minute. Collecting a loose ball off an SBU defensive turnover, Simonetti's first goal of the season was unassisted. Junior F Meghan Borysiak (Sylvania, OH) scored her first career goal in the 88th minute, putting the match out of reach at 4-0. The junior scooped-up a ball 10 yards of the midfield stripe, dribbled 12 yards and slipped a shot past Everhart from the top of the box. Borsyiak's unassisted tally capped the season-high four-goal night for UD. Senior MF Tesia Kozlowski (Westerville, OH) paced the offense with six shots, while six other Flyers took three each. Senior GK Stacy DeLuca (Maryville, IL) made one save in posting her fifth shutout of the season and sixth career. For Bona, Everhart made 10 saves and also was aided by a defensive save on the line in the second half. The Flyers will return to action Sunday with a match at home against Duquesne University. Kickoff at Baujan Field is set for noon. |
