WOMEN'S SOCCER STAYS HOT WITH 3-0 WIN OVER LSU

Sep. 12, 2004

COLUMBUS, OH - With a pair of goals from junior F Reba Sedlacek (Hamilton, OH), the University of Dayton women's soccer team defeated LSU, 3-0, in the Buckeye Classic Sunday in Columbus. The Flyers (5-1-0) have won five straight and have outscored the opposition 9-1 in those five wins.

In the first-ever meeting with the Tigers (4-2-0), the Flyers put two goals on the board early, coming just two minutes apart. In the eighth minute, junior F Reba Sedlacek (Hamilton, OH) scored her second goal of the season. Junior F Katie Lowstuter played short on a corner kick to freshman F Amy Lopez. Lopez played right back to Lowstuter and Lowstuter found Sedlacek in the box, who spun and scored from close range.

UD connected on its first penalty kick of the season in the 10th minute. After Sedlacek was fouled in the box, junior MF Stacy Palumbo (Fairfield, OH) chipped her PK attempt to left upper 90, beating LSU keeper Robyn DesOrmeaux. For Palumbo, it was her second goal of the weekend.

Taking the 2-0 lead into the half, the Flyers owned decisive advantages over the Tigers in both shots (9-1) and corners (5-1).

Sedlacek tacked on her second of the match and third of the season in the 48th minute, giving UD breathing room at 3-0. The junior forward took a pass from Lopez and ripped a shot from 23 yards out to the far upper corner.

For the weekend, UD out-shot Virginia Tech and LSU 35-24 and owned an 13-6 edge in corner kicks.

After a six-match swing to start the 2004 season, the Flyers will finally open at home Sunday night against Oakland University at 7:30 p.m. The Golden Grizzlies were 15-5-1 last season, champions of the Mid-Continent Conference and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

The Flyers six-matches away from home (4 road, 2 neutral) is the longest regular-season stretch since playing seven-consecutive away from Baujan Field (4 road, 3 neutral) in 1988.
