Oct. 27, 2006 Richmond, Virginia - Freshman Mandi Bäck netted a hat-trick and juniors Dara Elk and Kristen Persichini each added a goal for the Dayton Flyers (8-5-3) as they rolled over the Richmond Spiders (2-13-2) 5-1 on Friday night. In the beginning of the 15th minute, freshman Mandi Bäck beat a defender down the middle of the field and went one-on-one with Spider goalkeeper Kate Hudson. In the 25th minute, the freshman from North Olmstead, Ohio, slid a shot past the keeper to the left of the goal to put the Flyers in the lead 2-1. Three minutes before the end of the first half, Bäck completed her first career hat trick by collecting the remains of a scramble after a Dayton corner kick. She beat a Spider defender and found goal to seal the lead at half 3-1. In the second half, junior Dara Elk put the game out of the reach of Richmond. Sophomore Annette Bonasso took a shot that was saved by the Spiders in the 63rd minute. Elk was there for the rebound and tucked the ball into the net to seal the 4-1 victory for the Flyers. Not to be outdone, junior Kristen Persichini added her own touch to the game. In the 88th minute, the Walsh Jesuit product fired a shot toward the goal that was blocked. Persichini picked up her own rebound and scored. Junior Niki Reed had a relatively quiet night in goal. Reed faced only four shots on goal, saving three.
